Urban Neighborhood Services

Urban Neighborhood Services (UNS) was founded in 2004. The non-profit organization’s mission is, “to address the quality-of-life disparities endemic to urban communities like Coney Island by connecting individuals and families to the resources that they need as a form of empowerment.”

UNS currently offers an array of programs and services, and collaborates with local residents to help achieve the organization’s goal of creating a better neighborhood for all.

Kingsborough Community College

My Turn Program

An educational opportunity for individuals 60 years or older.

Kingsborough Community College offers older adults a great opportunity to attend college tuition free. NY State residents 60 years of age or older are qualified to attend classes as matriculating or non-matriculating students.

More than 400 courses are available including:

  • Art
  • Music
  • History
  • Computers
  • Health Education
  • Literature
  • Other subjects

My Turn students attend classes with traditional students. Facilities availlable to students include the library, gym, pool, tennis court and private beach. $80.00 Registration fee includes two semesters, Fall & Winter or Spring & Summer.

Live Well – Do Well – Age Well

Fall 2016 Semester (October 4th – December 13th)
When: Tuesday’s 10:20 am – 12:00 pm

The National Council on Aging in collaboration with Kingsborough Community College have created Live Well – Do Well – Age Well. A 10 Week program based on the national aging mastery program.

The program is designed to offer participants 50+ years of age, the skills and tools needed to reap the benefits of this cutting edge wellness program. Participants will achieve measurable improvements in:

  • Navigating longer lives
  • Sleep
  • Exercise & you
  • Healthy eating & hydration
  • Financial fitness
  • Advanced planning
  • Healthy relationships
  • Medication management
  • Civic engagement
  • Fall prevention

For each of these classes, Kingsborough Community College will provide basic educational materials developed from highly trusted sources, checklist of action steps, and a system for tracking behaviors. Participants earn points for positive actions and rewards.

Please be committed to attend all 10 sessions. Cost $60.00 (will include educational materials). Registration fee is waived for Aging Mastery Program and free parking is available to all participants.

As a member of the staff at SUNY Downstate-based Bay Ridge Multispecialty Physicians, Liberty Hearing Centers’ providers provide complimentary hearing screenings for adults who visit the facility.

Senior Umbrella Network of Brooklyn (SUN-B)

We’re the only doctors of audiology who are members of the Senior Umbrella Network of Brooklyn, a not-for-profit voice for older adults through advocacy, education, and collaboration.
We regularly participate in initiatives including the organization’s Fall Prevention Committee and maintain strong relationships with fellow professional members dedicated to helping seniors thrive.
